To Early 517 District Predictions – Div 4 MHSAA Boys Basketball

Published On: February 18, 2024
  • District 113 – Portland St Patrick (10-10), Lansing Christian (2-18)
    • Portland St Patrick basketball program continues to improve year over year, but success in the postseason is going to have to wait another year. Sitting at .500 the Shamrocks will more than likely face off against a tough Fowler, as a result Fowler will move on to the District Title game with little effort required. As for Lansing Christian, their journey will also be short lived having to face off with a 15-6 Fulton team. It’s tough to say what next year will bring for these two teams, regardless 517 Hoops will be here to cover them.
  • District 118 – Colon (11-8), Mendon (12-8)
    • Colon and Mendon head into districts neck and neck, currently with just .001 separating them in the MPR. These two teams have split their regular season matchups at one a piece. Colon having the slight edge should result in them taking the #2 seed and more than likely facing Marcellus in the second round of districts and short of some early March Madness, the Magi should be a shoe in for a District Title appearance. On the opposite side we expect to see an upset with Mendon cruising past Burr Oak, and defeating Howardsville Christian for a second time this season. In the District Title game, we will give Mendon the win over Colon.
  • District 119 – Hillsdale Academy (16-4), Will Carleton (13-9),  Litchfield (11-8), Tekonsha (3-18), Camden-Frontier (1-17), Coldwater Pansophia (3-12)
    • District 119 is a pretty straightforward bracket on the surface. Hillsdale Academy plays the toughest schedule by far making them the clear favorite here and we see no reason why they shouldnt win the District Title. Will Carleton and Litchfield have both had great seasons, but have not been able to put together the type of wins needed to defeat Hillsdale Academy. Hillsdale Academy will more than likely face a struggling Tekonsha team, winning this game convincingly. Litchfield should face off with Will Carleton in this coin flip matchup, we will take Litchfield to advance to the District Title. In the end Hillsdale Academy takes the title convincingly.
  • District 120 – Waldron (11-9), Pittsford (12-8), Jackson Christian (10-10), Jackson Prep (8-5), Vandercook Lake (3-18), North Adams (3-14)
    • This is probably the toughest Div 4 district to predict. District 120 is full of 517 teams dancing around the .500 mark, with Waldron and Pittsford taking the #1 and #2 seed. In the first round Vandercook should be able to defeat an untested Jackson Prep squad. The Jayhawks are in a major rebuild mode with a long way to go. They will give Waldron a challenge but should ultimately fall to defeat. On the other side Jackson Christian should slide past Jerome only to hit a Pittsford wall in a close defeat. Waldron, playing host to Pittsford, should take the District in a close matchup and advance to the next round.
  • District 121 – Lenawee Christian (18-2), Britton Deerfield (16-5), Morenci (1-18)
    • District 121 hands down goes to Lenawee Christian. The Cougars are the first team in our predictions that have a very clear path to a State Title. It is not going to be an easy path, but they are our Div 4 favorite in the state this season. While there is a lot of work ahead of the Cougars, we do not see a challenge for them in districts. With only three teams to mention in this district, The Final four should be Britton Deerfield easily defeating Central Academy and Lenawee Christian defeating Summerfield. In the District Title game the Cougars should be able to defeat Britton Deerfield for a third time this season by double digits playing at home.
  • District 124 – Webberville (8-11), Morrice (5-14)
    • District 124 is our toughest group to evaluate but is wide open for the top 3 teams. If Webberville manages to secure the #1 seed we should have a District Final matchup between Webberville and Morrice. Brighton Livingston is a MPR favorite but has not had the schedule this District Title demands. Webberville should be able to secure the District Title at home and move on to the next round.
