Marrio May 2023 Freshman Preseason Player Evaluation
Marrion May is an incoming Freshman at Lansing Everett and a name you want to write down. He is a 5’9” point guard from Lansing, MI who we have been fortunate enough to watch mature over the years. May is the definition of a gym rat, continually perfecting his craft.
He is easily one of the smoothest hoopers in the 517 freshman class. His footwork is well developed and can be defined in one word, rhythmic. Unfortunately for his opponents, May’s ability to get to the hoop is only half the problem when it comes to guarding him, his jump shot might be even more dangerous. His pull up is unpredictable and can happen anywhere on the court. Marrion separated himself from others at the Prep Hoops 2023 Freshman Showcase this year, showing the maturity of his game with his mid range jumper. The mid range is something we don’t see too often in today’s style of basketball, but May keeps that in his bag and it serves him well. On defense he is patiently aggressive. His basketball IQ makes him a dangerous defender in transition. His spacing fools the offense just enough into making what they think is a good pass, only to have it picked off by May.
It will be exciting to see how he is utilized this year at Everett. Marrion has experience playing up with Varsity age players. With his basketball IQ and maturity May has the potential to make a huge splash if given the opportunity.
