Lundon Hampton 2023 Freshman Preseason Player Evaluation

Published On: September 10, 2023

Lundon Hampton is a 6’1” 180lb incoming freshman at Lumen Christi High School in Jackson, MI. At 15 years old, Lundon is already bigger than most upperclassmen in the 517 and is extremely dominant among his age group. Even though this is an evaluation of his on court abilities, we cannot ignore the fact that he received a D1 offer from Central Michigan and a D2 offer from Saginaw Valley in football before ever playing a snap of high school football.

had a chance to watch Lundon this past travel season at CP3 and his travel team Young Hustle out of Grand Rapids. Hampton’s size is almost a cheat code allowing him to play taller than his 6’1″ height. On a number of occasions we have seen him be the most dominant player in the paint even when playing against opponents two to three inches taller than him. Hampton’s play demands a double team, as a result he spends more time at the line than most and finishes with a high free throw percentage. Size aside, Lundon is a Lefty who’s not afraid to bring the ball up the court under pressure. We saw him go coast to coast on a number of occasions and even caught his signature behind the back pass in the paint at CP3 and PrepHoops. Hampton’s dominance down low affords him a lot of made buckets around the basket. As he matures at the high school level, we look forward to seeing him take more shots from the perimeter. Defensively Lundon may be the widest body on the court but in no way does that slow down his quickness. His left to right footwork allows him to guard the ball handler coast to coast and rarely allows them the opportunity to gain a step on him. On the boards it’s simple, if he gets one and a half hands on the ball it’s his to do what he wants with. Hampton’s ability to guard every position on the court is going to separate him from a lot of athletes this coming season.

As a freshman Hampton’s upside potential is endless. If he stays dedicated to his sports we expect to see many more college offers coming his way in both basketball and football. It’s impossible to predict the future but it would be no surprise to see Hampton on Varsity this year contributing in a big way.
