Kingston Thomas 2023 Freshman Preseason Player Evaluation

Published On: September 10, 2023

Kingston Thomas is a 6’3” freshman for East Lansing. Yes, you read that correctly, a 6’3” freshman. As a young athlete Thomas still has a lot to learn and a lot to prove, but for a second we will give him a little clout for his continuous hard work. If there was such a thing as “2k23: 517 Edition”. Kingston Thomas would be a max created player. He was undoubtedly one of the most polished all around freshmen at the 2023 Prep Hoops Freshman Showcase in Grand Rapids this summer.

Offensively Thomas was a threat on every front. In transition and under pressure the lengthy frame of Thomas was quick enough to move the ball upcourt, around traps and through seams. Past half court he often scored at will, whether it was from deep or in the paint with quick footwork. Off the ball Thomas was aware of spacing and was aggressive on the boards. As Thomas gets older, we look forward to seeing his finish moves develop, in the meantime his size and quickness are going to make him very difficult to stop. On defense Thomas showed his ability to guard every position on the court. His length and speed made him very difficult to dribble around and his height makes him a huge threat on the boards.

Being at East Lansing, Kingston will have a lot of talent to challenge him and for him to learn from. Knowing how talented East Lansing is this year, we still would not be surprised if we see Thomas gracing the Varsity floor at some point this season. Genetically Kingston seems to be very gifted as well, with a number of growing years ahead of him. His listed height come senior year should be inches above his current. If Thomas stays dedicated to the game and continues to develop like he has, the options for him to play at the next level will be endless.
