Carlos Gomez is an incoming freshman at Waverly High School. Over the years we have watched Gomez’s growth on both a national level with Young Hustle, formerly GR Phoenix as well as countless Gusmacker tournaments.

We caught up with Gomez in Grand Rapids at the 2023 Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase last week. Gomez was easily one of the most experienced players in the gym and with a lengthy basketball resume behind him, his confidence on the court was obvious. Showcases are unpredictable and are not always the best place to highlight high IQ basketball players. Regardless of points Gomez is always a contributing factor on the court. He is a floor general, but dictating the pace of the game is not the extent of his skill set. Gomez scraps for the ball, he can shoot and he can drive. As Carlos Gomez continues to develop physically his presence on the court will become even more valuable.

He has the tools to become a great high school player and is on our list of players to watch this year, in the 517 Freshman Class.
